工作场所急救

In Nunavut, the number and level of designated first-aiders come from a risk assessment combining workers per shift and remoteness (close/distant/isolated), with work-site first-aiders holding an Intermediate or Advanced qualification under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, Part 5. The regime is administered jointly with the NWT by the WSCC under the Safety Act, applying CSA Z1210-17 and Z1220-17 standards effective January 1, 2021.

In Nunavut, the Emergency Medical Aid Act (RSNWT (Nu) 1988, c E-4), inherited from the NWT and continued by the territory, rules out liability for damages from acts or omissions of a person who voluntarily and without expectation of compensation provides emergency medical services or first aid at the immediate scene, unless there is gross negligence, and it covers both professionals and laypersons. There is no legal duty to rescue and no dedicated defibrillator statute, so lay AED use falls under the Act's general immunity.

Nurses in Nunavut are regulated jointly with the NWT by the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CANNN), attesting annually to a Continuing Competency Plan built around two learning goals rather than fixed hours, with roughly 10% of members audited each year. Clinically relevant training such as BLS or CPR can count among plan activities, and a current BLS/CPR certificate is generally an employer requirement in hospital, long-term-care and community settings rather than a licensing condition.

In Nunavut, elder-care homes and home-support services are staffed by Personal Support Workers who may be required to hold first-aid certification so they can respond to residents in an emergency, and Nunavut Arctic College health programs require a Standard First Aid/CPR-C certificate. A recognized, up-to-date first-aid/CPR certificate meets this expectation, in addition to the worker's occupational training, and must be renewed periodically.
